Wellington's Historic Regent Theatre

Contact US/About US

The Wellington Regent Theatre was opened in the 1920's as the Ashland Theatre.  In 1928, the Miller Family purchased the Ashland and remodeled the building into the present the Spanish Colonial design. For many years the Regent, as it was known, played first run movies and went through many changes and alterations.

In 1957 the Regent marquee was added and in subsequent years additional changes were made to the original structure.

In 1981 the stucco exterior was covered in wood siding and many of the details of the exterior were covered or removed.  In the late 1990's the theatre changed hands and the Regent as a movie theatre ceased to exist as the Regent was remodeled into a restaurant and dinner theatre.

In May 2010 six investors that either live in Wellington or have strong Wellington ties, purchased the Regent and were determined to bring back first run movies to Wellington and the surrounding communities.

The Regent was totally remodeled in the fall of 2010 with many of the historic features were restored, including 1920's period paint, new carpet and flooring, new "historic" electrical fixtures and installation of new seating.  The theatre now has seating for 222.  The Wellington Regent Theatre also is licensed to serve Cereal Malt Beverages on the premises.
